Vietnam's passport currently ranks 82nd globally, climbing 6 spots from the January 2023 ranking and 10 spots from 2022.
In the latest Henley Passport Index released on July 18th, Vietnam's passport ranks 82nd out of 199 countries and territories worldwide. This is a 6-spot increase from the January 2023 ranking (88th) and a 10-spot increase from 2022 (92nd).
With this ranking, Vietnamese passport holders can enter 55 destinations worldwide without a visa or with an e-visa or visa on arrival.
The Henley Passport Index is a ranking of "visa-free travel" conducted by Henley & Partners, a global residence and citizenship advisory firm based in London, UK, since 2005.
The evaluation and ranking of passports are based on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA). Each visa-free destination earns the national passport 1 point.
In this ranking, the passport rankings for other Southeast Asian countries are as follows: Singapore (1/192), Malaysia (11/180), Brunei (20/166), Timor-Leste (55/95), Thailand (64/79), Indonesia (69/73), Philippines (74/66), Cambodia (82/55), Laos (87/50), Myanmar (89/47).
Compared to the January 2023 ranking, the passport rankings for Southeast Asian countries have all improved. Singapore has climbed 1 spot (from 2nd to 1st), while Malaysia, Brunei, and Timor-Leste have all climbed 3 spots. Thailand and the Philippines have both climbed 4 spots. Vietnam, Laos, and Indonesia have all climbed 6 spots, while Cambodia and Myanmar have climbed 7 spots.
In this latest ranking, Singapore's passport has surpassed Japan to become the "most powerful passport in the world." Singaporean passport holders can enter 192 destinations without a visa".
