Right after the meeting on December 5 in Seoul, South Korea, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc, and South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol had a press conference to inform about important cooperation orientations that the senior leaders of the two sides have just agreed.
Accordingly, based on great cooperation achievements in the past, the two leaders, on behalf of the two countries' states, agreed to elevate ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership. It is a landmark event, opening up great opportunities in the cooperation relationship between Vietnam and Korea in the coming time.
Speaking at the press briefing after the meeting, President Nguyen, who is on a three-day State visit to the Republic of Korea, expressed his belief that the new partnership framework will usher in a new period of robust development in the bilateral ties for the benefits of the two countries and for peace, stability, and development in the region and the world.
President Nguyen Xuan Phuc has outlined some important tasks to implement a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Accordingly, in terms of politics - foreign affairs, both sides will continue regular exchanges and contacts in a flexible manner and format, and timely share information and coordinate views on bilateral cooperation as well as the regional and international situation.
In terms of economy, trade, and investment, the two leaders reaffirmed the goal of raising bilateral trade turnover to 100 billion USD by 2023 and towards 150 billion USD by 2030. Vietnam welcomes Korean enterprises will continue expand the investment scale associated with technology transfer and focus on the fields of
electronics, infrastructure development, construction of green industrial parks, and smart urban development.
President Nguyen Xuan Phuc also thanked the Republic of Korea for its aid grants and preferential credit loans, contributing to boosting development in the Southeast Asian country.
Nguyen said both countries also agreed to step up and enrich the contents of manpower cooperation, and foster cultural and educational exchanges in a bid to increase mutual understanding and trust between the two people.
On the multilateral aspect, the two leaders agreed to step up collaboration at regional and international forums.
They reiterated the importance of ensuring security, safety, and freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea in line with international law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
The pair also agreed to promote dialogue and cooperation for a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula in accordance with the Resolutions adopted by the United Nations Security Council, thereby contributing to peace, stability, and development in the region and the world.
