From September 22nd to 23rd, as assigned by the Prime Minister, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, Dang Quoc Khanh, led the Vietnamese delegation to attend the third P4G Summit in Bogota, Colombia. The delegation included representatives from the Ministry of Planning and Investment, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The third P4G Summit, organized by the Colombian Government, saw the participation of around 500 delegates from 12 countries and P4G partner organizations. With the theme "Partnering for Green Transformation - Action for Lives and Growth," the summit focused on three topics: biodiversity, energy transition, and sustainable cities.
The summit reaffirmed the role of green growth in economic recovery and the achievement of the United Nations' sustainable development goals. It recognized the achievements of P4G in establishing a global public-private cooperation platform, supporting countries in climate change adaptation, promoting green growth, and implementing 5 out of 17 SDGs (including SDGs 2 - Zero Hunger, 6 - Clean Water and Sanitation, 7 - Affordable and Clean Energy, 11 - Sustainable Cities and Communities, and 12 - Responsible Consumption and Production).
The summit called on countries to create conditions for the private sector to play a greater role in promoting technological solutions, innovation, and financing for green transformation and sustainable development, while also generating new jobs in green industries.
During the summit, Denmark pledged a contribution of USD 30 million, the Netherlands pledged USD 10 million, and South Korea pledged USD 1 million for the second phase of P4G.
At the summit, Vietnam received the rights to host the fourth P4G Summit in 2025. Speaking at the event, Minister Dang Quoc Khanh expressed gratitude to the P4G member countries for their trust and support in Vietnam hosting the P4G Summit in 2025. The Minister affirmed that Vietnam would make the highest effort and hoped that Colombia and partner countries would share their experiences and support Vietnam in successfully undertaking this important responsibility.
The Minister emphasized that Vietnam will promote the summit's agenda in line with the priorities of all P4G countries and global concerns, including ensuring food security linked to poverty reduction, managing and sustainably utilizing transboundary water resources, building and operating early warning systems to monitor the impacts of climate change, promoting net-zero finance and equitable energy transition, developing low-carbon smart agriculture, and developing a circular economy for plastics.
During the summit, Minister Dang Quoc Khanh had bilateral meetings with the Danish Vice Minister for Development Policy, the South Korean Vice Minister for Climate Change, the President and CEO of the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the CEO of P4G. Partners highly appreciated Vietnam's proactiveness and responsibility in proposing to host the P4G Summit in 2025 and pledged to work closely with Vietnam to successfully organize the summit, as well as enhance the effectiveness of P4G's role in supporting countries to achieve climate goals and take action.
The Vietnamese delegation also sent representatives to participate in the working group discussions on energy transition and sustainable cities, and worked with the P4G Secretariat, Colombian and South Korean coordinators to exchange experiences in organizing the P4G Summit in 2025./.
